• Killer whales hunt in groups or packs. They surround their prey and take turns attacking

• Using echolocation, orca can bounce sound waves from underwater objects to determine food location.  

• Orca whales are fast swimmers so they can catch their prey  

• Some killer whales even attack other whales for lunch!

• Killer whales bite and tear away chunks of flesh and swallow them whole because they don’t chew!

• Sometimes killer whales tip ice floes and attack the penguins and seals that slide off

• Sometimes orcas sneak up on walruses and seals on the shore or rocks. They grab the prey and then wriggle back into deeper water. They can throw their catch high in the air and swat it around in play until they kill it and eat it.
