       Student E-Tools:  Your Digital Desktop
                                           

           Your student password gives you access to your own private "digital desktop" with the following
           functions. For more detail, see the help button that is attached to each tool. 

          Note: All the following tools are under the control of your administering teacher!  Therefore they can be
          monitored, activated and deactivated as your teacher sees fit. You must login to use these! Quick link.

  • The Calendar Tool allows you to organize your assignments and events. Under the Community view, the tool allows all community members to organize events. Under the My view, the Calendar Tool acts as a personal organizer for each student. There are different views to this calendar including: day view, week view, month view and year view. You can simply click on a time in the day view to start scheduling your events. The calendar will send you an email reminder if you desire. You could also create recurring events without having to re-enter them for each reoccurrence.

  • The Chat Tool allows students to carry on conversations with one another in community chat rooms.  This chat is controlled by your teacher and with the correct permissions, If your teacher gives you have the correct permissions,  you may create new chat rooms, edit or delete the ones already in existence, and control the operation of chat rooms.

  • Favourites is a tool that allows you to conveniently save, describe and visit links that are of interest to your  research group.  Your teacher will set up the "favourites" tool for group activity, however, you  may set up this tool for you own private use.

  • You polling tool allows you type out a question - e.g. who is the best player on the NHL? - and track visitor opinion as they use this tool to give their feedback to your question.

  • Use the instant messenger tool to send messages to your class or research team! If they are on line you can talk right away. If not, the community message alert feature will prompt them to answer waiting messages the next time they log on.  You can send a message to any combination of students or teachers you wish.
  • The File Manager can be used to upload, store, and retrieve files from the community. Any files may be used. Image files and web-based documents can be viewed on line as well. Naturally, files may be shared with other community members in your research team.  

  • Your Message Boards tool allows students to read and post messages to central forums. Message Boards created by the teacher and/or the research leader are listed in the Message Board Folder. Messages may be searched and sorted by topic. The Message Board tool has four main functions:
    1. It provides access to all message boards for all research groups.
    2. It allows research groups to create new message boards.
    3. It allows message posting and replies to messages.
    4. It allows the administrator to configure message board functionality through the use of Action Permissions.

  • The Newsletter Tool allows members to read, publish, edit, update and search articles that have been published by your research community.  You can type in regular text or you use this to create a multimedia web page.

  • The Photo Album allows you to upload, share and view picture files.

  • Your email tool can download your email from external servers as well as send and forward email listed in your "Inbox". Select Tool Settings from the Action Menu and set your pop server profile; when finished you are ready to use the email tool.
